  • "Preview" and practice drawing the giraffe's nose, eyes, spots, and horns.

Procedure:

Guide students through the drawing of a giraffe.

  1. Start with the muzzle. It is heart shaped at the top and round around the sides and bottom. Add the chin.

  2. Next, draw the circles for the eyes. Outline the eyes with two layers of an abstract teardrop shape.

  3. Next, add the sides of the face between the eyes and the nose. Now, draw the face above the eyes.

  4. Add the bridge of the nose.

  5. Add the "horns" and the top of the head.

  6. Draw in the ears and add whiskers along the muzzle.

  7. Add his neck, running off of the paper. Draw the giraffe's mane and eyelashes. Add spots, which are abstract not round. Make sure some spots are drawn at the edge of the giraffe.

  8. Add the branches and leaves.
  • Trace all lines with black pens, erasing any left over pencil lines.

  • Using markers, have students color the giraffe. Make sure spots are colored with a darker shade than the skin.

  • Tape the drawing into the mat with masking tape.
